Each year in the spring, The Donald Ross Society gathers for our Annual Meeting. In May 2009, we are back to the West coast where the Peninsula Golf & Country Club will be hosting as we celebrate our 20th year. The Annual Meeting is limited to Ross Society Members and their guests. please click here for membership information.
The
Club now called Peninsula was founded in 1912 as the Beresford Club and
boasted a Tom Bendelow golf course, but the members wanted something
more. In 1922 they sought out Don-ald Ross and asked him to come to
California. Ross was at the Beresford for 21 days completing his design
and although he did not stay for the Grand Opening his fingerprints can
be found throughout the course. When
members began talking of developing a master plan for renovation, our
Club Historian suggested that we contact the Donald Ross Society and it
was this group that made the Club’s leadership aware of recent trends
in course restorations. We found a wonderful architect with a profound
respect for Ross (Ron Forse who has offices in far off Pennsylvania)
and once again we brought an Easterner out to the West Coast. Now,
once again, we are asking you Easterners to come west and join us for
four wonderful days of golf and fellowship. We will play three amazing
golf courses: Peninsula (the only Ross course west of Colorado);
Stonebrae TPC (a David Kidd gem overlooking San Francisco Bay); &
Aetna Springs Resort (located in Napa wine country this is the oldest
golf course in California).
